Life without Obama

What if Obama hadn’t been President for the last four years? What if McCain-Palin had been in charge instead? What would be different (or the same) about your life? I asked.

MARCEL
Age 38. Occupation: Undisclosed.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Marcel: “It'd be pretty much the same, 'cause it'd be the same game, with different players.”

ROY
Age 63. Occupation: Writer-director.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Roy: “I'd be miserable. I'd probably be living somewhere in Asia right now. Or Italy. I don't believe the Republicans even care about America. They just care about their party. And Palin was an idiot. And McCain disappointed me. I used to respect him, because I'm an army veteran. During the Bush administration, he and Bush were against a GI benefits increase. Personally, i just think the Republicans don't give a damn about the working man. It's all about the rich and the rich and the rich,, and that's what i don't like. The only difference I can see is that when Obama got into office, the Republicans in the Congress tried to block everything he tried to do.”

DANIELA
Age 33. Occupation: Lawyer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Daniela: “Different? I'd probably know a lot more kids that died in the war.

"Same: It's all kinds of the same political bullshit that goes on, no matter what the candidate is. But I guess I still eat into the whole thing that maybe there is hope. Cliché with this campaign, I know...”

SHA
Age 44. Occupation: Stockbroker.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Sha: “I think it would be worse. I honestly don't trust McCain.”

ALAN
Age 66. Occupation: Insurance adjusting. "I help people file their insurance claims."

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Alan: “I think there'd probably be less criticism of the presidency. But I think that effectively, we were going into a difficult problem economically. We would have probably still had major difficulties at present. I'm not so sure there would have been these radical programs instituted, like Obamacare, et cetera. So i think there realistically would have been difficulties, but not as much criticism of the presidency. Now it's anyone's guess who's going to win the coming election, so we're going to see... if in fact, Obama doesn't get reelected, are things going to turn around rapidly? I think that any solution that we have is going to take time.”

GEORGE
Age: 47. Occupation: Live concert engineer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

George: “I really don’t think mine would be much different, except... Obama was left with such a pile of crap to begin with, that it’s going to take more than four years to clean it up. So it’d probably be the same, but I’m not real happy with the insurance thing. But I’d rather have the ‘Buy-your-own-insurance; thing than the compulsory thing. So...

GERALD
Age Undisclosed. Occupation: Engineer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Gerald: “It'd be the same. There'd be no difference. They can never straighten out the mess that Bush put us in. Nobody can. And this mess is going to last a long time. So whoever's got a job now - and a good job - they'd better keep it. Because I don't think people are gonna get jobs like years ago.”

PETE
Age: 30. Occupation: Entrepreneur.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Pete: “Well, there were a lot of things that were said that would be done that didn’t get done. I’m kind of convinced that he lied. But at the same time - it’s a black president! Thumbs up, for the people!”

MARY
Age: 42. Occupation: Director of inventory control, heavy duty truck manufacturer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Mary: “Personally, I don’t think I would be affected any differently... Maybe even less money than I have now.”

“STELLA’S MOM”
Age 31. Occupation: Writer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Stella’s mom: “My life would probably the the same. I don’t know if it would affect my life yet, because it does take a little bit of time to notice all the changes. I honestly think that we as a country would be worse off. I don’t know that they would have everything cleaned up that Bush left before they went into office. I think we would definitely be worse off than we are now. I know that people say that Obama hasn’t accomplished a lot, but I feel like he has. And he had a lot to clean up. Personally, I don’t think Palin would have made it. She probably would have gotten kicked out of office or something, ‘cause she’s an idiot. You know, I do feel like McCain was more experienced than Obama, and he probably would have been a good leader. However, I don’t agree with his politics or anything like that. But I definitely feel that having Palin by his side would have been catastrophic to this nation.”

CHARLES
Age “Above 50.” Occupation: Entrepreneur.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Charles: “I don’t think America would have pulled up from the freefall drop that we had in the economy, to be honest with you. That’s because there’s too much of an imbalance with money, in that the rich people have the money, whereas is middle class is the machine that makes America exist. So you have to get the machine going, which is the middle class.”

TOM
Age 44. Occupation: Artist.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Tom: “At this point, I think it’d be the same, ‘cause living the way I live, politics don’t really affect me. It doesn’t really matter if it’s Democrat, Republican, anything... it’s all the same to me. I guess if I was more in the business world, or if I was in the family world, it would affect me. But other than that, nothing.”

SUZANNE
Age 40. Occupation: Massage therapist.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Suzanne: “I'd probably have less rights. But I think that Obama made everybody scared about the economy, and moving from across the country and trying to find a job was hard, in 2008.”

JUAN
Age 26. Occupation: Machinist.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Juan: “Honestly, I wouldn’t be able to say. I’m not really into politics, so I don’t know if McCain would be a good or bad president.”

NICK
Age: 26. Occupation: Software developer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Nick: (Without hesitating) “Probably not that much.”

CECILE
Age 28. Occupation: Writer.

What would be different about your life if Obama hadn’t been president?

Cecile: “I would assume that conservativism would have been boosted up a bit in this country, but then again I sometimes think that Congress has more power than the presidency, which is how the forefathers envisioned it. But...yeah, I don't know. Less hopeful, that's for sure.”

  3. Our inevitable financial collapse started with the housing program under the Carter administration. Escalated by Barney frank under the Clinton administration, basically ignored by the Bush administration (he did address it once but was shot down by the Dem controlled congress)
It has been determined that Freddy and Fanny should be dismantled but has instead gotten cash infusion by Obama to keep it alive. McCain knew about it and would have addressed the issue head on. GM should have been allowed to file for reorganization and come back stronger. It has happened to many air lines and other businesses. Our tax dollars are not meant to bail out faltering businesses that are being crushed by the their union!
